The University of British Columbia has now opened applications for the UBC Public Scholars Award for qualified candidates interested in studying in Canada.
The University of British Columbia Public Scholar Award guarantees a total of $20,000 per student to support the student’s living and research expenses.

Details about the UBC Public Scholars Award:
The UBC Public Scholars Award is part of the UBC Public Scholars Initiative (PSI), which explicitly links doctoral research to public sector link benefits. Our goal is to build connections, community, and capacity with interested graduate students.
This year’s funding is available for up to 30-35 new students. Students may be eligible for her second-year extension (pending new her PSI funding).

UBC Public Scholars Award Requirements:
- The University of British Columbia’s 2024 Public Scholars Award is open to UBC Okanagan doctoral students in years 1-5
- Applicants must apply in 2024 8 Must have completed a PhD within 48 months by September 31, 2024
- Applicants must be enrolled in a UBC PhD program as of September 1, 2024
6th year applications PhD students (48-48 months) (60 months) will only be accepted in exceptional cases. - All students, faculty, and staff will be asked to complete a survey at the end of their funding/participation.
As part of the pilot’s evaluation, 4,444 student theses, degrees, and career achievements will also be reviewed.

UBC Public Scholars Award Duration and Compensation
The UBC Public Scholars Award provides two grants of $10,000 to support innovative/cooperative scholarship that students would not otherwise be able to pursue. A total of $20,000 will be awarded per student.
Funds can be used for:
- Research allowances (including grants for professional development or academically related travel)
- Scholarships for students where the student’s current funding source does not permit an alternative project. Fri
